Ironman and General Update: Plate Spinning
October 18th, 2009 by piankeshaw

First off: I need to apologize to my faithful readers for the lack of posts lately. I am old enough to vaguely remember watching the Ed Sullivan Show.  One of my favorite acts as a kid on  the show were

The trick is to focus and keep moving.

the plate spinners.  Ya’ just don’t see plate-spinners like you used to. My life has been like those plate-spinners with lots and lots of plates in the air.

The good news is that I have been training like a madman to make up for lost time. The bad news is that a lot of things just don’t get done. Despite rumors to the contrary, I am given the same 24 hours that everyone else has.

I’ve all but given up on the idea of a taper before the race. A couple days rest before the race will have to suffice.

My health has improved and I feel like I am back to pre-kidney stone form.  I’ve actually managed to get some swimming in, but still expect to exit the water with the geriatric crowd.

At a point where I could use some words of encouragement.

" We have a really big show!"

HEY-HEY!!!
and words of encouragement you shall have!

Dan, it’s great to see ya back in the blogging game, but it’s even greater to see you back at your 100%, pre-kidney stone self!

You are one of the most mentally tough, driven, and focused individuals I’ve ever had the privilege to meet. You have completed two tough IronMan events, and I have NO DOUBT that you will do fine in this event. Just stay within yourself, focus on “The Now”, and make steady, relentless progress.

Remember, you don’t have to do this forever. But you have to do it TODAY!

You’re tough and you know you can finish. Maybe you won’t perform as you would have hoped, but you’re not racing anyone. The only person you need to worry about is you. Focus on YOU and you will succeed.
